An honest local guide to the restaurants, konobas and bars of Stomorska

Stomorska is a small fishing village, yet for its size it offers a surprisingly wide choice for a good lunch or dinner. Along the waterfront you can order fish from the daily catch, black risotto and octopus, and just a few steps away pizza, a burger, a homely local dish or modern Mediterranean sharing plates.
That is exactly why the question "Which is the best restaurant in Stomorska?" has no single answer. Some people are after a special dinner by the sea, others want a quick pizza after a day on the beach, and some simply need a place where the children feel at home. In this guide we combine our own experience with the praise and criticism that come up most often in guest reviews on Google and Tripadvisor.
In short: if you want the most versatile and most reliable choice, we recommend Volat. For a slightly more special dinner go to Nevera, for modern plates and a cocktail choose BOKun, and for a relaxed evening with children Ponistra or O'la'la.
| If you are looking for … | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The safest all-round choice | Volat | Reliable mix of fish, meat, pasta and pizza |
| Dinner plus a berth for your boat | Turanj | Moorings available by prior arrangement |
| A slightly special dinner | Nevera | More refined seafood and a calmer evening |
| Modern sharing plates | BOKun | Tapas, homemade focaccia, wines and cocktails |
| A relaxed local vibe | O'la'la | Simple Dalmatian food, fair prices, occasional live music |
| Morning coffee or a quick bite | Ponistra | Coffee, burek, burgers, pancakes and ice cream |
| Pizza or takeaway | Riva | Practical pizzeria for an easy family meal |
| A beer next to your boat | Komin | Drinks with a view of your own boat in the marina |
| Something different outside the village | Štorija o Šolti | Dinner in nature in Donje Selo, booking essential |
In peak season we recommend booking a table, especially between 7 and 9 pm. Opening hours are seasonal and can change, so check them directly with the restaurant before you set off.

The best all-round choice in Stomorska

In our opinion Volat is the best and most versatile restaurant in Stomorska in terms of quality and consistency. This family-run konoba has been open since 1990 and its menu is broad enough for fish lovers, meat eaters, pasta fans and pizza people to agree on the same table.
In our family we especially like ordering pljukanci with prawns and salmon, pljukanci with beef and truffles, black risotto, the Ribarska pizza or something from the meat section. The mixed meat platter is an excellent choice for a hungry group.
Volat sits right below Casa Vidan, which makes it very practical for our guests arriving late on the island: instead of hunting for a restaurant, you can be at a table by the sea almost straight off the ferry.
Guests most often praise the wide choice, generous portions, good value for money and the location on the waterfront. The dishes mentioned again and again are the pizzas, meat platters, black cuttlefish risotto, squid and fish platters. The staff also get plenty of credit, especially for staying friendly when the restaurant is full.
Criticism is mostly tied to the peak of the season: waiting times get longer, service is not always equally warm, and some guests describe individual fish or meat dishes as under-seasoned or slightly dry. There are also occasional complaints about how reservations are handled, so it is worth confirming your table in advance.
We recommend Volat to families, larger groups and anyone who wants a safe choice without long negotiations and a pleasant meal right by the sea. It works well for lunch after the beach, for your first evening on the island and for nights when everyone at the table wants something different.
Practical tip: book ahead in July and August. We are happy to arrange the reservation for Casa Vidan guests.
For a more special dinner and seafood lovers

Nevera is a family restaurant in a somewhat higher price bracket. We choose it when we want a calmer, more polished dinner rather than a quick meal after the beach. Our personal recommendation is the pašticada with gnocchi - a much loved Dalmatian dish of slowly braised beef in a fragrant sweet and sour sauce, traditionally cooked for weddings, holidays, Sunday lunches and family celebrations.
Reviews return again and again to the fresh fish and seafood, above all the fish soup, black cuttlefish risotto, octopus, sea bass and seafood pasta. Guests often mention the attentive staff, the pleasant atmosphere and the careful presentation, and the semifreddo stands out among the desserts.
Negative reviews are fewer and usually concern the higher final bill - especially with fish charged by the kilo - and occasionally uneven service speed at the busiest hours. It is not the best choice if you are after a cheap dinner or you are in a hurry.
We recommend Nevera to couples, fish lovers and anyone who wants a more festive evening, a good bottle of wine or a celebration without formal fine dining. It suits a fast, inexpensive meal or a very large group with mixed wishes far less well.
Practical tip: when ordering a whole fish, ask for the weight and an approximate price before it goes on the grill.
Lunch or dinner by the sea, especially if you arrive by boat

Turanj is one of the most recognisable restaurants on the waterfront and a classic choice for a meal overlooking the harbour. The menu is classically Dalmatian: fish, squid, risottos, grilled meat and pizzas. It is particularly convenient for sailors, as moorings are available by prior arrangement.
Guests praise the seafront setting, the friendly service, the fresh fish and the relaxed atmosphere for a longer dinner. Fish platters, squid and simple grilled dishes prepared without unnecessary fuss come up frequently.
Criticism mostly concerns high-season prices and uneven quality of individual dishes when the restaurant is full. As everywhere along the waterfront, the experience is best outside the busiest hours.
We recommend Turanj to sailors, couples and families who want a relaxed dinner by the sea without particularly high culinary expectations.
Practical tip: if you are arriving by boat, arrange the mooring in advance by phone.
Modern Mediterranean sharing plates, wines and cocktails

BOKun differs from the classic Stomorska konobas in its very concept. Instead of one large main course it offers cold and warm Mediterranean plates to share, homemade focaccia, carefully chosen wines and cocktails. It is more of a gastro bar than a traditional fish restaurant.
We like going there on live music nights or when we meet a bigger group and want to spend the evening over drinks and small bites. In other words, a proper tapas bar - great for socialising by the sea, less suited to a hearty classic dinner.
Although BOKun still has relatively few reviews, they are strikingly positive. Guests praise the homemade preparation without industrial shortcuts, the focaccia, caponata, croquettes, patatas bravas, the fish and vegetarian tapas plates, the desserts and the cocktails. The friendly explanations of the menu, the attentive service and the intimate terrace overlooking the bay are also mentioned often.
There are still too few recurring complaints to draw a reliable pattern. Some guests mention slightly longer waits, which is part of the experience in a small venue where dishes are cooked to order. The more important caveat is the small number of reviews: the high average rating is promising, but not yet as thoroughly tested as at Volat, Nevera or Turanj.
BOKun is an excellent choice for couples, small groups, wine and cocktail lovers and anyone who enjoys ordering several dishes for the middle of the table. It is also good for vegetarians. It suits large groups, very small children, guests expecting a classic kids' menu or anyone who simply wants a big pizza or a standard grilled platter far less well.
Practical tip: the terrace is small, so booking is advisable. Ask the staff how many plates they suggest for your group and appetite.
For a homely atmosphere, big portions and a laid-back evening

O'la'la is for those who value a homely atmosphere, occasional live music and affordable prices more than fine dining. It is one of the places where locals like to gather - over a glass of wine, a simple dinner or a Hajduk match.
Our recommendation is definitely the black risotto - when we fancy it, this is usually where we go.
Guests often praise the waterside location, the large portions, the friendly service, the reasonable prices and the relaxed feel. The dishes mentioned most are pizzas, tuna, octopus salad, risottos, fish and pancakes. For some visitors the live music is a main reason to come.
Opinions are more divided than at the top-rated venues in the village. Some guests describe the food as good and honest but not remarkable, and there are occasional complaints about inconsistent quality of individual dishes or service. O'la'la is best understood as a relaxed local restaurant rather than the culinary highlight of your holiday.
We recommend it to families, larger groups and guests who want an informal evening without inflated expectations. It is especially enjoyable when live music or an important match is announced. For a quiet, romantic dinner check the programme first or pick another night.
Practical tip: if music or football matters to you, check what is on that evening before you go.
From morning coffee to an evening burger and ice cream

Ponistra is not a classic restaurant but a laid-back family spot that changes character through the day. In the morning it is a favourite place for affordable coffee with a croissant or burek. In the evening the children take over for ice cream, pancakes, juices, burgers and ćevapi, and later the pier in front becomes one of the gathering points for young people - the location lets you order a spritzer, sit on a bench on the jetty and watch the village go by.
There are far fewer Google reviews than for the bigger restaurants, but guests mostly praise the relaxed feel, the friendly host, the good coffee and beer and the chance to sit unhurried and watch the harbour. The food most often mentioned is grilled chicken, croissants and ice cream. With so few detailed reviews it would be unfair to draw a reliable pattern of criticism. Ponistra is better judged as a local bar and street food stop than by the standards of a multi-course dinner.
It is best for morning coffee, a quick and easy bite, families with children and an evening ice cream or drink. It is not meant for a special romantic dinner or for guests looking for a wide choice of fresh fish and wine.
Simple Dalmatian food with sharply divided ratings

We drop in here rarely, occasionally with friends who arrive by sailboat and want a beer with a view of their own boat. The restaurant is not known as one of the better ones in the village.
Komin offers the classic combination of pizza, fish, squid, risottos, meat and simple Dalmatian dishes. Compared with the more polished restaurants along the waterfront it feels more informal.
Komin is the venue with one of the widest gaps between guest experiences. Recent positive reviews praise the good pizza, the squid, honest home cooking, a friendly host and the sense that this is not a tourist trap. Some recommend it especially to families and guests who want a simple meal without ceremony.
The lower overall Tripadvisor score is largely down to complaints about inconsistent pizza quality, slow or unfriendly service, table cleanliness and unclear bills. Since experiences clearly differ so much, and some of the harshest reviews are several years old, it is fair to show both sides: the place has satisfied regulars, but it is not as dependable as the best-rated restaurants in the village.
It suits an undemanding family dinner, a pizza or a simple Dalmatian dish. It is less suited to the one special dinner of your holiday if you want minimal risk and a fully predictable experience.
Practical tip: check the current menu and payment options before ordering, and in summer ask whether a reservation is needed.
For pizza, a burger or takeaway

Riva is a straightforward pizzeria for moments when you want a pizza, a burger or an easy meal without a long dinner. It also does takeaway, which is handy for families and apartment guests.
If you want a slightly more intimate experience, ask for a table right by the sea. The pizzas are solid, so whether it is a family dinner or a quick stop on the way home from the beach, you will probably be happy with the choice.
Guests most often praise the friendly staff, the pleasant location, the pizzas, the burgers and the moderate prices. Several positive reviews highlight Riva as a practical choice for a family or a quick dinner.
Criticism concerns mainly the inconsistent quality of the food: some find the pizza very good, others describe it as average or weaker. As Riva has no separate Tripadvisor profile, the sample of reviews is narrower and based mostly on Google.
Riva suits a quick family dinner, a pizza after the beach and takeaway back to your apartment. It is not the choice for a special fish dinner or for guests looking for more refined cooking.
Dinner in nature outside Stomorska

Štorija o Šolti is not in Stomorska but in Donje Selo, so we do not count it among the village restaurants. We still keep it in this guide because it offers something you will not find along the Stomorska waterfront: dinner in nature, tied to home cooking, a garden and island tradition.
This is not a normal trip to a restaurant but a slow evening worth planning in advance. You eat outdoors among olive trees and aromatic herbs, the vegetables come from the garden, and the whole experience is more personal than a standard dinner on the waterfront.
Štorija o Šolti is a newer, more boutique project, so there are currently not enough comparable public ratings on Google and Tripadvisor for the same kind of analysis we can do for the larger Stomorska restaurants. Until a big enough sample builds up, it is better to describe the concept and our own experience than to draw conclusions from a handful of individual comments.
We recommend it to couples, families with older children and guests who want to devote one evening of their holiday to an authentic island experience. It is not for spontaneous arrivals without a booking or for an evening when you are in a hurry.
Practical tip: booking is essential. When you reserve, ask about transport from Stomorska and back.
If it is your first time on Šolta, do not just read the menu. Ask about the daily catch, how it is prepared and the price of fish per kilo. A well-cooked, lesser-known local fish is often a better choice than the most prestigious name on the menu.
Dishes worth trying:
With your meal, be sure to taste Šolta olive oil and ask for a wine made from Dobričić, the indigenous red grape closely tied to the island.
The greatest strength of Stomorska is not one single "winning" restaurant but the chance to choose a different rhythm every evening. Fresh fish by the sea one night, pizza with the children the next, a glass of wine and several small sharing plates after that. If we had to suggest just one safest choice to a first-time visitor, we would pick Volat. For a special fish dinner we would look to Nevera, for a more modern evening to BOKun, and for a relaxed get-together with a bigger group over a beer we would choose O'la'la.
