7 beaches in Stomorska you can walk to
A local guide to the beaches right next to the Casa Vidan apartments

To enjoy crystal-clear water, lie on warm rocks or relax in the sun in Stomorska, you really don't need a car or any special planning.
Right next to the Casa Vidan apartments you will find several different swimming spots – from the popular pebble village beach to quiet rocky corners and almost completely secluded coves.
On the map below we have marked seven beaches most often used by guests and locals. All distances and walking times are measured from the Casa Vidan apartments.
Every beach has its own character. Some are better suited to small children, others to couples, sun lovers or guests willing to walk a little further for peace and quiet.
1. Điga Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 100 metres, roughly a 2-minute walk
Điga is a typical Dalmatian village beach that from the air looks like a small tongue of land at the entrance to Stomorska bay.
To reach it, simply head along the right-hand side of the bay from the apartments. After about two minutes of walking you are already on the beach.
The beach is made of small pebbles and is probably the busiest swimming spot in Stomorska. It is mostly chosen by families with small children and guests who don't want to walk far in the summer heat but would rather get into the sea quickly.
The swimming area is roped off, so boats never come close to the shore. The beach can be divided into two parts. On the left side of the tongue you will usually find families with younger children, roughly one to five years old. On the right is the main pebble beach, mostly visited by tourists and families with slightly older children.
The biggest drawbacks of Điga are the crowds and the almost complete lack of shade. The sea here is very clean too, and access is extremely easy.
Our opinion: Điga is great for a quick swim or a visit with very small children. If you are willing to walk just a few minutes longer, you will probably find a quieter beach in Stomorska that suits you better.
2. Garma Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 400 metres, roughly a 5-minute walk
On the opposite, left-hand side of the bay, a few dozen metres past the Royal hotel, hides the small cove of Garma.
Although there is only room for a few couples or small families, you will almost always find a free spot here. Despite being close to the centre of Stomorska, Garma is not a particularly well-known or busy beach.
It lies just below a narrow, one-way and usually very quiet road. It is at its best in the morning, while the sun is still shining on it. In the afternoon the shade arrives fairly quickly, which makes the cove feel a bit darker.
Garma is a frequent choice for couples and small families who want to stay close to the apartments but avoid the crowds on the village beach.
There are no bars, restaurants or other facilities at the beach.
Our opinion: Garma is excellent for a quick morning swim or a short visit. Since it is very small and mostly shaded in the afternoon, we wouldn't choose it for a full day of sunbathing.
3. Veliki Bok Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 500 metres, roughly an 8-minute walk
Veliki Bok is one of the most beloved beaches among locals, especially among families with slightly older children.
Instead of pebbles, here you are welcomed by mostly flat and comfortable rocks. There are both sunny corners and naturally shaded spots, so everyone can find a place that suits them.
Getting into the sea is fairly easy in several places. Locals regularly clean the most-used entry points, so the rocks there are not as slippery as on the untended parts of the shore.
You can reach Veliki Bok by two routes.
Along the coastal path, turn right on the waterfront, pass Điga beach and continue along the sea. After just a few minutes you will start discovering various rocky corners, small jetties and swimming spots.
You can also take the slightly shorter upper route. From the apartments, climb the stairs, pass through the green iron gate, turn left and continue past the church and through the narrow street. This shortens the walk by about two to three minutes.
Veliki Bok is especially suitable for families with children over about five, as well as couples and individuals looking for a quieter place to swim.
Our opinion: when we swim in Stomorska, Veliki Bok is usually our first choice. It is close enough, offers both sun and shade, and thanks to the many rocky nooks you can almost always find a spot without crowds.
4. Veli Dolac Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 750 metres, roughly a 10-minute walk
Veli Dolac is on the left-hand side of the bay. To get there, walk past the last restaurants on the left side of the bay, continue past Garma and follow the coastal road.
It is a medium-sized pebble beach, popular above all with families. Compared with the other beaches in Stomorska, it also offers the most facilities.
At the start you are met by a pebble beach with a few small jetties that children love jumping from. If you continue a little further, you reach the Plitka punta headland, where you can swim from the rocks and enjoy the view over the whole Stomorska bay.
A few metres further on is Beach Bar Afrika. Next to it there is another pebble beach, and guests can choose between swimming, sunbathing, shade and a cold drink.
Children can play, swim and jump into the sea or grab an ice cream, while adults can enjoy a pizza, a cocktail or a beer.
There is also a shower at the beach bar.
Although a road leads to the beach, we do not recommend driving. The road is narrow and in practice traffic often runs in both directions, so the drive can take considerably longer than a relaxed walk. Cycling is much more practical.
Our opinion: Veli Dolac is the best choice for families and groups where not everyone only wants to swim. Children get the beach and the jetties, sun lovers get the rocks, and everyone else gets shade and a cold drink at the beach bar.
5. Dešenja Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 1,500 metres, roughly a 20–25 minute walk
Dešenja is the beach for anyone who wants to experience the old spirit of Dalmatia – a small cove, pine trees, cicadas and the feeling of having escaped the tourist bustle for a few hours.
A few years ago the beach was much harder to reach, as no road led to it. As locals, we often visited it only by boat.
Today a decent road leads almost all the way to the cove and ends about 50 metres before the beach. The last stretch follows a forest path. That makes Dešenja easy to reach by bike too.
To get there, follow the left-hand side of the bay past Veli Dolac and Beach Bar Afrika and stay on the only coastal road the whole way.
At the end you are welcomed by a small cove with pebbles, pine trees, sunny spots and some natural shade. Since Dešenja is just far enough that most visitors can't be bothered to walk there, you may well have the beach almost to yourself for most of the day.
On hot summer days we like to visit it by boat. But if we have to choose between a two-minute walk to the village beach and twenty minutes to Dešenja, we will almost always pick Dešenja.
As the beach is completely wild, there are no bars, toilets, showers or bins. Bring enough water, food and sun protection, and take all your rubbish back with you.
The beach is mostly visited by couples and slightly more adventurous guests. For small children the walk can be too long, especially since families have more practical options already around Veli Dolac.
Our opinion: Dešenja is one of the best choices for guests who want peace, natural shade and the feeling of a genuinely hidden Dalmatian cove.
6. Pulenat Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 1,200 metres, roughly a 16-minute walk
Pulenat is another beach where there are almost never any crowds.
It lies on the outer side of Stomorska, offering an open view towards Split, Brač and the shipping lanes. While sunbathing you can watch sailing boats, ferries and other vessels travelling between Split and the islands.
The shore consists mainly of flat rocks. In several places you will find a comfortable spot to lie down and a safe entry into the sea.
There is almost no shade during the day, so Pulenat is most popular with sun lovers and guests who want to catch a bit more of a summer tan. In the hottest part of the day we recommend good sun protection and plenty of water.
Among locals and visitors, Pulenat also has an unofficial reputation as a nudist beach. We cannot confirm whether it officially has that status, but in practice you may meet naturists on that part of the shore. Dogs are equally welcome here and bother no one.
Our opinion: we recommend Pulenat to adult visitors, dog owners, sun lovers and anyone who appreciates an open sea view and a quieter rocky swimming spot.
7. Pišćena Beach
Distance from Casa Vidan: 1,400 metres, roughly a 20-minute walk
Pišćena is the last beach in our guide and lies at the far eastern end of Stomorska.
You can reach it along the seaside path or via the upper route through the village. It is a smaller pebble beach, mostly used by residents and guests of the nearby houses.
From the centre of Stomorska it is most often visited by guests who want to combine a swim with a slightly longer walk.
We recommend a circular route. Head out along the sea to discover almost the entire shoreline up to the last houses in Stomorska, and return via the upper route through the village.
Along the way you will notice an interesting mix of newer apartment houses with pools and traditional Dalmatian stone houses.
Our opinion: Pišćena is a pleasant choice for a quiet swim and for guests who want to combine a beach visit with a longer exploratory walk around Stomorska.
Which beach in Stomorska should you choose?
- For small children and the shortest walk, choose Điga.
- For a quick swim without crowds, visit Garma.
- For shade, flat rocks and a favourite local spot, we recommend Veliki Bok.
- For families, jetties, a beach bar and extra facilities, Veli Dolac is the best choice.
- For a wild cove, pine trees and peace, walk to Dešenja.
- For sunbathing and open views towards Split and Brač, choose Pulenat.
- For a swim combined with a longer coastal walk, visit Pišćena.

What all these beaches have in common is exceptionally clean water.
In Stomorska, its clarity can surprise you at the very first glance over the bay. On sunny days you can see almost all the way to the seabed through the turquoise blue – and that right next to the centre of the village.
