What Is Parking Like in Stomorska?

At the time of writing, parking in Stomorska is still not fully regulated. There are not enough public and officially marked parking spaces for all the vehicles in the village each day during the summer. For years, local residents were therefore accustomed to parking along the road or wherever a vehicle did not obstruct traffic, and this was generally tolerated.

Parking along the waterfront in Stomorska during the summer months
Parking spaces along the waterfront and in the centre of Stomorska are often completely full in July and August.

During the summer months, however, the growing number of vehicles and arrival of tourists began to turn this informal parking into chaos. Cars were parked everywhere, which was neither practical for traffic nor in keeping with the appearance of a small Dalmatian village. I can confirm that, in the weeks before this article was updated in August 2026, vehicles parked in unauthorised places – along the road, on the waterfront and elsewhere – were fined on several occasions. The problem is that even we locals often do not know which places are actually permitted. What we do know for certain is that parking is allowed on your own property or, with the owner's permission, in a private car park or garage. However, there are very few such spaces in Stomorska.

That is why it pays to be careful when booking accommodation. Many apartments advertise "free parking", but in practice this may mean competing for one of the public spaces along the waterfront or elsewhere in the village, while also risking a fine for illegal parking. In July and August, these spaces are usually full, and complaints from visitors who are unable to find anywhere to park are not uncommon.
