Šolta is an excellent family holiday destination - perhaps one of the best in Dalmatia for families seeking peace rather than amusement parks. Calm sea, safe beaches, no traffic congestion and a relaxed atmosphere make this island ideal for families with children of all ages.
On Šolta, children can freely run around the village, swim in the shallow sea, explore the rocks along the shore and learn about nature first-hand. There's no dangerous traffic, no crowds, and the locals are exceptionally friendly towards families.
Family-Friendly Beaches
Beaches in Stomorska and Nečujam have shallow sea ideal for children - the sea is calm, sheltered from waves, and the bottom is pebbly and clean. Pine forests provide shade for hot days, and restaurants are nearby for refreshments.
Practical tip: We recommend water shoes for children as beaches are pebbly. Bring snorkelling gear too - kids love watching fish in the clear water.
Activities for the Whole Family
On Šolta, families can enjoy activities that are rare in the modern world: exploring unknown coves together by boat, riding e-bikes through olive groves, visiting underground bunkers (for older kids), tasting olive oil straight from the press, or simply fishing from the pier in Stomorska.

E-Bike for the Family
One of the best family activities on Šolta is e-biking. Electric bikes allow even children and older family members to effortlessly tackle the island's hilly trails. The route from Stomorska to Maslinica winds through olive groves and villages, with stunning sea views.

Tvrdić Honey - Family Visit to a Beekeeper in Grohote
One of the most beloved activities for families with children on Šolta. The Tvrdić family has been raising bees and producing honey in Grohote for three generations. Goran, the third-generation beekeeper, shows visitors how bees live and how honey is made in an incredibly fun and educational way - with real equipment and inside a real hive. Almost all guests leave thrilled. Tasting the rosemary honey Olinthio is a must. You can also buy honey on the spot. The visit needs to be arranged in advance - we're happy to help with the reservation.
Nečujam - Seaside Pools for the Whole Family
Just a few minutes' drive from Stomorska lies Nečujam, a peaceful bay with pools right by the sea. Ideal for families - children can swim and play freely in the pools while parents relax with a coffee or cocktail on the terrace overlooking the sea. A great alternative for days when the sea is rough or when children simply want a pool.
Family Accommodation
Casa Vidan offers three apartments in Stomorska, of which apartment Marcelo is especially designed for families - spacious, with three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, large terrace and free parking. A baby crib is available on request.
All apartments have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, washing machine and dryer. The house is in a quiet part of Stomorska, surrounded by a Mediterranean garden - ideal for children who love exploring outdoors.
Practical Tips for Families
Stomorska has two shops where you can buy all basic groceries. For a bigger shopping trip, there is a supermarket in Grohote, just a 10-minute drive away. The pharmacy is in Grohote (10 min drive). There's no hospital on the island - the nearest is in Split. We recommend travel insurance and bringing enough medication for children. In summer, the UV index is very high, so sunscreen, hats and light clothing are essential.

Damir Vidan is the fourth generation of the Vidan family connected to the island of Šolta, and his daughter is already the fifth. He is one of the family members who look after Casa Vidan and the author of the local guides, which are based on his own experience of Stomorska and Šolta.
He also runs the local family farm OPG Damir Vidan, where he grows olives and produces organic olive oil. When he is not among the olive trees or at Casa Vidan, he prefers to spend his time outdoors - on the boat, by the sea or on one of the quiet, secluded beaches in the shade of the pines.
